Threepenny Novel
Author(s): Bertolt Brecht
The book is a biting satire on the decay of capitalism. It is descended from Gay's Beggars Opera via Brecht's reworking of it which he called the Threepenny Opera. It is set in London circa 1900 and the crooked deals concern Boer War supplies. Today, Brecht is still considered by many to have been one of the most controversial figures in European theatre.
